Falstaff Magazin: 94/100
2000 is among the precocious years. The half-veraison is 9 days early (on August 6th).
From April to mid-August, the vintage seemed to be moderately hot with a surplus of sunshine and humidity. April was hot and very humid. May and June were hot and moderately rainy.
In spite of all this, the flowering was relatively quick and homogenous. July was cool and humid. The first fortnight of August was hot (5 days>30°C) with little rainfall. Quick veraison. A harvest spread over September and the beginning of October allowed for picking exceptionally healthy grapes.
Soil: Garonne gravel from the first quaternary, settled more than 600 000 years ago
Tasting Notes: Full-bodied, yet very, very refined, with a centre core of fruit that tastes like crushed raspberries and goes on and on.
Food Pairing: Beef and Venison
Saint-Julien is a small but important red wine appellation of the Haut-Médoc district on the Left Bank of Bordeaux in south-western France. Its reputation is based on its status as a reliable source of consistently elegant, age-worthy wines.
