With a rich history dating back to 1604, Château Fuissé has been at the hands of the Vincent family for over three centuries and it’s their incredible savoir-faire, refined over the course of five generations, that brings this exquisite 2018 Tête de Cuvée to life. A wonderful companion to your favourite pasta dishes, this Chardonnay is an unforgettable introduction to the estate’s offering, with its enticing fruity blend and refreshing acidity giving way to a lingering finish.

Terroir: Château Fuissé’s Téte de Cuvee is a blend of over 40 prime vineyard sites throughout the appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé. Plots in Pouilly, with a high limestone proportion, contribute intense perfume yet more delicacy in the mouth. Those in Fuissé, where clay is more prominent, are less aromatic but fuller, more solid and structured. Vines are an average of 30 years old.

Vinification: Each vineyard site is vinified separately until the final blend is chosen following ageing. 60% of the wine is aged in oak barrels (25% new) while the remaining 40% is stored in stainless steel to retain its pure fruit.

Tasting Notes: Brimming with ripe yellow plums and nectarines with candied lemon/lime citrus and honeysuckle; delightfully pure and harmonious with a warming creamy oak consistency and a lovely deft finish. Long and luxurious.

The Grape
Chardonnay
Chardonnay is the "Big Daddy" of white wine grapes and one of the most widely planted in the world. It is suited to a wide variety of soils, though it excels in soils with a high limestone content as found in Champagne, Chablis, and the Côte D`Or.

Burgundy is Chardonnay`s spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvelous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.

It is quantitatively important in California and Australia, is widely planted in Chile and South Africa, and is the second most widely planted grape in New Zealand. In warm climates Chardonnay has a tendency to develop very high sugar levels during the final stages of ripening and this can occur at the expense of acidity. Late picking is a common problem and can result in blowsy and flabby wines that lack structure and definition.

Recently in the New World, we have seen a move towards more elegant, better- balanced and less oak-driven Chardonnays, and this is to be welcomed.
